Track records matter

Track records matter. In this election season, voters should pay attention to the track record of candidates for elected office because that information gives us a factual way to predict their future decisions — much more so than their political advertisements.

Rick Gray, who was appointed to the Arizona State Senate and is the other candidate in the Legislative District 21 race, suggests that he supports public education, but his track record paints a very different picture.

Gray was in the Legislature when it voted to cut more from the education budget in Arizona than any other state. He supported relaxing financial accountability for charter schools, which has led to the serious abuses we now see. His inglorious track record also included support for draining scarce tax dollars away from public schools when he supported vouchers and expanded tax credits, allowing our public tax dollars to be spent at private schools that are not held accountable for student achievement.

Gray’s assertion that he supports quality schools certainly doesn’t translate to his support of public schools and does not match his history of legislative decision-making. Track records matter. You should know Gray’s history.

Kathy Knecht, independent candidate for the Arizona Senate from LD21, has a proven track record of support for our public schools, community involvement and effective leadership.

Knecht has served 12 years on the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board and is a past president of the Arizona School Boards Association. Her consistently high expectations and effective decision-making has helped PUSD maintain its reputation as one of the best districts in Arizona. That should matter to all voters in LD21.

Knecht served as the executive director of Leadership West and in numerous community organizations, including the Peoria Chamber of Commerce, the West Valley Arts Council and the Blue Blazers, a volunteer organization at Luke Air Force Base.

She has served the West Valley, including the five communities represented in LD21, with dedication, intelligence and enthusiasm. Her proven track record of service to our community represents the diversity and priorities of the West Valley: a strong economy, effective schools, smart growth and healthy communities.

Knecht’s track record of effective leadership is impressive and helps us trust that she will make decisions based on fact and not party loyalty. As a life-long independent, Knecht makes conclusions based upon available data; she asks tough questions, and analyzes all sides and options to arrive at the decision that best serves the people in our community. Knecht will serve ALL of the residents of our Senate district. You can trust Knecht’s track record of success.

We need a senator who will collaborate and work across the aisle to get things done. We need a senator who will listen to us, analyze issues independently and make decisions based on that analysis, not just along party lines.

We encourage you to vote for Kathy Knecht for state Senate in LD21.
