AZ Swing Kings Jazz Orchestra performances announced for West Valley

The AZ Swing Kings Orchestra, an 18-piece big band, has announced performances scheduled for the West Valley.

The group consists of professional all-star musicians who play the authentic sounds of the famous bands that represented the swing and jazz eras. The Swing Kings have recently performed at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix for the “Rat Pack Christmas Show,” and for events sponsored by Benevilla and Arizona Broadway Theatre.

The band is directed by Lenny King, former creator and leader of the Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, which produced two CDs — and performed throughout the Midwest and in China. King was a music educator for 35 years in Illinois.

Upcoming events include:

  • “Big Band Jazz and Swing” from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Oct. 28 at Willowbrook United Methodist Church, 19390 N. 99th Ave., Sun City. The concert will feature vocalist Vito Maynes. Admission costs $5 at the door.
  • “A Swingin’ Salute to Veterans and the USA” from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 on the Lawn at the Wigwam in Litchfield Park. Vocalist Barry Dale will be featured. Admission is free.
