25th season of Glendale Glitters kicks off Nov. 23

Cardinals running back David Johnson helps kick off Glendale Glitters at Friday night ceremony in downtown Glendale.

The city of Glendale invites residents and visitors across Arizona to be part of the 25th anniversary of Glendale Glitters, which kicks off with Glendale Glitters Spectacular Weekend from 5 to 10 p.m. each evening Nov. 23 and 24. Sixteen blocks in downtown Glendale will be illuminated with 1.6 million lights creating a magic wonderland and a holiday tradition for so many families year after year.
The Countdown to Glendale Glitters Show will begin Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., with entertainment that will include performances from Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company, Marilyn's Academy of Dance and The Phoenix Conservatory of Music. The culmination of the show will be Glendale Mayor Jerry Weers and City Council on stage, joined by Arizona Cardinal David Johnson to help flip the switch for the 1.6 million lights, along with a special short fireworks display.
The festivities don’t end there. Friday and Saturday evening feature fun for the entire family, with activities such as holiday story time, visits with Santa Claus, performances by Brelby Theatre, a free snowfield and more. Food and seasonal arts and crafts vendors will be on hand, in addition to the shopping and dining at businesses throughout downtown Glendale.

The event is free and free parking shuttles are offered from Glendale Community College at 59th and Olive avenues. The north parking lots are the shuttle lots, and can be accessed off of 59th north of Olive. In addition, attendees have the option and convenience of paying for preferred parking in the two downtown garages at City Hall, 59th and Glenn Drive and Bank of America Building, at 58th and Glenn drives. A limited amount of handicapped parking is available at no charge in the two parking garages, with either handicapped placard or license plate, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Glendale Glitters is produced by the Public Facilities, Recreation and Special Events Department and sponsored by APS, Swire Coca Cola, Bud Light, Entertainment Solutions, Glendale Ambassadors, The Arizona Republic, KTVK TV 3 and KPHO TV 5, SportsFan Locker, Diamond Resorts and Cerreta Candy Company.
Glendale’s holiday light display remains lit nightly through Jan. 12 from 5 to 11 p.m. each evening. Glendale Glitters Holiday Weekend will take place 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15.
