Things to consider before voting

The Sept. 20 issue of The Glendale Star contained an editorial by Debbie Lesko talking up how much better off Arizona is now. She makes a lot of claims with no facts.

In the article, she repeats three things three times: military, health care and safer communities. This is all talk, no facts. The military hasn’t done anything to make Arizona safer.

Her claims that health plans are creating more freedom and choice of healthcare is nonsense. The Republicans cutting mandates of healthcare is leaving millions without healthcare, will allow insurers to raise rates by age between 50 and 65. Proposals by Republicans would allow insurers to eliminate coverage of pre-existing conditions or allow higher rates.

As for making our communities safer, Lesko’s stand on gun control is making us less safe; note waking up every morning to news of all the shootings.

Tipirneni’s plan of allowing Medicare at age 50 is a good step toward single pay coverage.

Lesko mentions working across the aisle. I remember only once and that was pension reform that was really a bipartisan effort. The benefits of the tax plan are still unknown except for less taxes for corporations and the wealthy.

Home coverage, actual house calls by physicians, is picking up and being encouraged by provisions of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). As a matter of fact, Obamacare has been more popular and premiums are going down for 2019.

Please think seriously about your vote.
